Will this procedure work on the male breast?

I am a MTF Transgender. I'd like to have breast augmentation and am very interested in using my excess fat to enhance my breast. Will this procedure work on the male breast? I have an A cup now and would like to go to a B cup so this seems to be right for me too. Thanks Bobbi

This procedure would absolutely work for male breasts. It would be helpful if you could submit photos of your breasts and donor sites. I can then assess whether you have enough fat, the type of fat you have, and whether you have enough loose skin on your chest to accept the additional volume.

Yes, fat transfer would work. The results may increase your chest size 1.5-1 full cup size. More than one session will improve the fat take and size results. It is possible you can get from an A to a B with fat transfer. The great thing about breast implants is they have more predictable outcomes as far as volumetric goals. Thank you for your question.  Autologous fat transfer to the breast is a viable option for patients who want a very conservative breast augmentation, a natural look, and understand the pros and cons of fat transfer to the breast.  This is still a somewhat controversial procedure because it may alter mammography, lead to unnecessary diagnostic procedures  and the long term effects on breast tissue is unknown.  Since the risk of breast cancer is lower in men, fat transfer to this area may pose less of a risk to you.  In your case, since you have very small breasts, you may benefit from pre and post transfer Brava Bra tissue expansion to improve the results.  This device is not FDA approved for this treatment, but it has been used off-label very successfully.  Consider doing some additional research on the ASPS/ASAPS position statement on fat transfer to the breast and Brava Bra with fat transfer. Best wishes.

Fat transfer will work every bit as well on the genetic male breast as it will on the female.  We might want to do some preoperative expansion for several weeks with a BRAVA device, as that has been shown to enhance the results, especially in those with tighter tissues.  As long as your expectations for volume enhancement are realistic, that is, in the range of one cup size larger, I think it can be a very good option for you to enlarge your breasts.  It also doesn't burn any bridges either, in that, if you undergo fat transfer and discover that you just don't get the results you were hoping for, you still could safely undergo breast augmentation with implants later. can certainly be done, assuming you have lots of extra fat elsewhere that can be harvested.  Using a BRAVA system can help with the process as well so investigate that on-line and find a surgeon who has the ability to use both in helping you achieve your goals.

Breast augmentation with fat is best suited for those patlients who desire shaping and more fullness obtained with their own tissues. It is a procedure that has been performed safely since the early 1990's.  Mammographic micro-calcifications are distinguishable from malignant ones with modern mamogram technology. More than one procedure is required to obtain the results that most augmentation patients seek. In the long run it should not cost more than breast implant augmentation when we take into account that the fat lasts and does not have to be replaced in the future as implants do.The male augmentation patient needs to be evaluated carefully to ensure that the breast skin is elastic enough otherwise the fat will be squeezed against the chest and show less.  Please consult in person with an experienced Board Certified Plastic Surgeon prior to making treatment decisions.

Creating a breast with fat transfer is being done. It takes more sessions and costs more than most will lead you to think. There is still no consensus on whether there is any increased risk of cancer associated with these procedures and they have not been approved by the plastic surgery societies (Yes, males can get breast cancer). Implants are safe, fast, and REMOVABLE. Even though you're certain it would never apply to you, transgender individuals do sometimes change their mind.

Fat transfer can work well in male to female Transgender.The skin envelope needs to be assessed, as well as the present shape. This would determine how much fat can be transferred in one surgery. It is very possible to need more than one session of fat transfer to achieve the results desired. A good evaluation and discussion of the procedure's pros and cons as well as the alternatives can be discussed. In MTF it is a procedure of enhancement and shaping.
