Hi @daisyb55. Thank you for your questions. An open roof deformity does not cause breathing problems or a post-nasal drip. An open roof deformity means there is a gap on the top of the bridge line between nasal bones and the septum after a dorsal hump removal. A post-nasal drip can be treated with anti-histamines and nasal sprays. I recommend you return to your surgeon for an examination.Best of luck,D. Nima
Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty device Piezo®: In traditional Rhinoplasty, surgical instruments known as rasps and osteotomies (hammer and chisel) are used to reshape the nasal bones by removing the hump and/or narrowing the nasal bone width. These tools are relatively imprecise and their use can lead to contour irregularities, etc. if not used in the proper manner. Recently, a technology that uses sound waves has been developed to contour nasal bones in a precise and far less traumatic way when compared to traditional techniques. Ultrasonic, or Piezo, Rhinoplasty is now the most advanced technology available for minimally traumatic nasal bone reshaping and hump removal during Rhinoplasty. There will be hardly any bruising and swelling which will make the recovery period a lot easier for the patient.
No, an open roof deformity just means that the bony roof of the nose hasn't been closed after a bump has been amputated. Congestion, especially at night, is usually due to turbinate enlargement. It may be on an allergic, irritative or positional basis.
If you are congested at night it is likely from turbinate hypertrophy. An internal nasal exam is needed to determine the cause of congestion. If it’s turbinate hypertrophic there are surgical and non surgical treatment.
It usually is a cosmetic problem and does not cause breathing issues. Nasal congestion And post nasal drip needs to be evaluated by an OtolaryngologistRegards Dr J
An open room deformity is a postoperative cosmetic defect that should not cause breathing problems, post nasal drip or congestion.
No, an open roof deformity does not cause breathing problems or postnasal drip. Open Roof deformity simply means is a very slight gap on the top of the bridge line between nasal bones and the septum after a dorsal hump removal. The treatment for an open roof deformity is to perform osteotomies in the nasal bones to close the gap. A thorough internal examination of the nose is required to figure out what is causing breathing problems such as chronic sinusitis, turbinate hypertrophy, deviated nasal septum, or Valve collapse. Post nasal drip is treated medically with nasal sprays and antihistamines.
Sorry for your problem and I would see my surgeon or other expert in the area and be examined in person. An open roof deformity should not cause congestion.Dr Corbin
The post rhinoplasty result you have does not cause either breathing problems or post nasal drip. The congestion may be secondary to a physiologic problems, such as allergies, etc. I would go back to your surgeon and ask him these questions. After an examination he may be able to give you a better answer.
Your gummy smile appears to be from a long midface which can be repositioned surgically. I recommend consulting with an oral surgeon who specializes in orthognathic surgery.. the oral surgeon can come up with an appropriate plan. If you have surgery on your maxilla it may improve your breathing...
