The eyelid sutures are waterproof very rapidly after surgery. We ask patients not to shower the night of surgery. After that they are permitted to shower. Undoubtedly you have a stack of papers from your surgeon that contains their preference. However, there is no reason on earth preventing you from having a shower now.

After 48 hours the first stages of healing have created a water tight bond over the cuts in your skin. You can't scrub or soak, but it's safe to get your incisions wet at 48 hours.If the surgery was not near the hair (eyes/nose/lower face), you can go to a salon and instruct the stylist be very careful about keeping your face dry. I've had a couple patients try to do it at home with little success. Plus going to the salon is nice way to pamper yourself. Please check with your surgeon. They may have specific instructions for your surgery.

There should not be any complications caused by the remaining sutures staying in place a few days longer (10 days versus 7 days). Your physician should be able to remove the suture material very easily. It is best to follow up closely with your surgeon.
