What will be the best course of action for this stitch at 1 year post-op? (Photos)

Hello, That is the knot (and tail) of a thick and stiff suture that is keeping your areola from expanding. Removing it will release the stitch and cause areolar expansion. As long as it remains under the skin you can wait and think about what to do with your surgeon. 

Thank you for sharing your question and photograph.  I would recommend seeing your surgeon for an in-person evaluation as this could be a stitch, or a Montgomery gland.  The former could be removed, while the latter is a normal areola finding.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for your inquiry, this could be a permanent suture that goes around your areola, please discuss with your surgeon and do not try to force it out on your own, best of luck. 

At this point of your recovery all the sutures should have dissolved.  If your doctor used a permanent suture, it could be trying to work it's way out.  See your plastic surgeon to asses your condition. If you are not having any other problems, it should not be an issue to worry about. 

Best advice is to return back to your surgeon for a re evaluation. If they confirm this is in fact a stitch and poking up against the skin they will likely remove it under local anesthesia.

I use absorbable sutures with my breast augmentation patients. I discuss with them to expect some type of inflammatory reaction which is usually very mild but might persist. Sometimes this may require suture removal using a local anesthetic.

The best course of action is to go and see your plastic surgeon to evaluate the are of your concern. If your augmentation was placed through the areola and a permanent suture was used to close then this could be a suture. Again, I suggest you notify your plastic surgeon. 

I would leave this alone at this point.  It may just be a normal glandular structure that is found in the nipple aerator complex.  It is not infected, so unless it causes problems, leave it.

Dear Newtitties101,For a routine breast augmentation the stitches are usually absorbable. Unless the stitches were permanent the sutures shouldn't be spitting. You should follow-up with your surgeon as he/she will know exactly what was done and can recommend a next course of action.Best regards,Nirmal R.
