During childbirth 4 years ago I had a tear in my labia minora which left it completely detached. I inquired during a follow up postpartum doctor's visit about having it repaired, where my doctor attempted to restitch it with no numbing. When that repair failed, they simply offered to cut it off. Discouraged, it's taken me years to look into options once again to see if it may be able to be repaired. I am having difficulty finding any reviews or cases with a tear similar to mine.
Answer: Labiaplasty after tear of minora during delivery I believe this can be repaired, of course an exam to assess the surrounding labia tissue would have to be done to confirm this. However, you are not alone. I have seen this several times and the repair does not involve amputation. I think that is a bad idea. I also would never do this repair without numbing as it is better to have you comfortable and relaxed as the repair takes some time to perform correctly. I recommend you see a board certified doctor that specializes in vaginal aesthetic or reconstructive surgery. Don't wait any longer, there are good options available for this.

Answer: Who is a candidate for labiaplasty It is hard to see in your picture what exactly you may need, but it is certainly possible to either repair the tear (with local anesthesia!) or perform a completion labiaplasty. Please visit my web site for more details as well as information on how to set up a virtual consultation. Regards, Daniel A. Medalie, MD

Answer: Would I be a good candidate for a Labiaplasty? Hello, Thank you for the question and the photos. I'm sorry to hear about your experience and poor wound healing. You appear to be a good candidate for a Labiaplasty procedure to help repair the split/torn inner labia on the right side. The two sides of inner labia may never look the same because it's been a few years since childbirth and injury, but typically we can attempt repairing split/torn inner labia if there is sufficient tissues left. I would recommend an in-person consultation with a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons who specializes in Labiaplasty procedures to discuss further your questions and concerns, and for the best cosmetic results. I hope this helps. Best regards, Dr. Irena Karanetz Fellowship trained Board Certified New York Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Would I be a good candidate for a labiaplasty? HI aeowens1, I am sorry for your tear in the area and also sorry that someone tried to repair it without numbing the site before attempting surgery. It is a difficult area to repair due to the daily irritation of the area with urination , wearing pants , exercising, etc. With that said , however, it does have a chance to be repaired successfully. I would suggest that you visit with a plastic surgeon or urogynecologist in your area who does a lot of these procedures for an in person exam and a frank discussion of the risks and potential complications. In no circumstances, should this procedure be done without some sort of anesthesia. Good Luck, dear. Best, Dr. Christine Rodgers
