Is it common after Rhinoplasty the tip of nose to drop? (photos)

It's true that three weeks is very early for healing of a nose, but in the next many months, most of the changes have to do with decreasing width: the tip getting smaller, the bridge getting narrower. However, in my experience, if the *length* of the nose is the problem, the length does not shrink as the swelling subsides. The tip does not climb up. In fact, we typically expect a tip to drop with time, so, for example, I'm not unhappy if my patients are nervous because the nose looks *too short* at first, because I know the nose will lengthen a little bit with time.Still, there's nothing to do right now but wait, and as the water leaves your nose and the overall nose gets smaller, the length may bother you less.However, one of the most common problems that I see in my revision patients is that the previous surgeon did not shorten the nose enough. It's not easy to do, and most doctors can't get it accomplished well. If you do wind up looking for a revision later, be certain that you've seen before and after photos that show excellent shortening of the nose.

I usually advise patients in my practice to wait around 12 months or so before scheduling revision surgery.  Its likely at this stage of your recovery that swelling is still evident making it difficult to assess your final result.  The nasal tip can drop after surgery if sufficient support was not placed in the tip.  Try to be patient and wait to see what your final result is before proceeding with any revision.  If your surgery was performed by a fully qualified plastic surgeon then its likely they have experience in revision rhinoplasty procedures.

Thank you for posting photos. I see exactly what you're describing. The tip almost always drops to a small degree as you heal but it appears that your tip is drooping to a point where it's detracting from your surgical result. I recommend that you followup with your surgeon as they can provide more insight about the exact procedure performed and what is normal for you at this time point. At 3 months postop, your nose is still healing and you likely have some component of swelling in the nasal tip. To answer your question: Yes, the nasal tip can drop after rhinoplasty if adequate support is not placed in that region of the nose. However, it is too early to tell what the final result of your nose will be. My best suggestion is for you to follow up with your rhinoplasty surgeon regularly so that they can monitor your nose for any changes and address any concerns along the way.
