Is this gynecomastia or not? (Photo)

Question

It is compressed. No liquid discharge. No pain. It was increased 10 yrs ago. Now I’m 25yrs old Male from Nepal and it is stable in position. I feel very awkward. Plz suggest me what to do? I also visited some Drs. Some said it is Gynecomastia and some said it’s not. Hope for best reply.

Thank you for your question.  From the pictures you have provided it does look like you have some fullness on the breast area.  With that being said I would suggest speaking with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in person to evaluate you and discuss whether liposuction of the chest is enough or if they feel you have breast tissue.  If you have some breast tissue they will make a small incision to help remove it and also potentially some liposuction.  Best of luck to you.

Skype or in-office consult would be necessary for evaluation of the extent of your gynecomastia. Though the conventional teaching has been that liposuction cannot remove breast tissue, I have found that I can remove the breast tissue with liposuction alone. This allows for small segmental reduction of the breast to produce the best contour possible and avoid over resection, cratering, and contour deformities. This also provides for much less scarring and potential poor scarring concerns.

It appears from the photo that you have enlarged breasts which by definition is gynecomastia. usually this is due to abnormally enlarged breast tissue (glandular gynecomastia) though could also be due to only fat (pseudogynecomastia). treatment is essentially the same, removal of the excess tissue. The difference is that your surgeon must always be prepared to excise true glandular tissue which will not come out with just liposuction.

Judging by your photos, I think you have a mild case of gynecomastia. Gynecomastia is the enlargement of the male breasts due to a hormonal imbalance in testosterone and androgen. I think that a simple liposuction procedure is enough to solve your issue since it can already remove the little amount of excess fat in your breasts. A more definitive answer would require an exam by your treating doctor to give you the best answer.

Thank you for the question and photos and you do appear to have gynecomastia which can be corrected with surgery. So go on some complimentary consultations with experts and compare recommendations after a full examination and discussion of desired results and look at photos of similar patients and become fully informed about the desired procedure

My question to you is why is it important to have a diagnosis?

Whether someone calls it true gynecomastia or not the treatment is the same.

If you want a flatter chest you will need surgical intervention. This is primarily done with Liposuction plus an open small excision of breast tissue in those who have more breast tissue.

The decision if someone needs an incision or direct open excision of breast tissue is best done during an in person consultation and based on the experience of the plastic surgeon.

In your case if you want a flatter chest you will need surgical intervention. It’s a cosmetic surgical procedure that’s not covered by insurance. It doesn’t matter if someone calls it fat or breast tissue or gynecomastia or a large chest.

Find a plastic surgeon who has enough experience with this.  One way to confirm a surgeon has the appropriate experience is to ask the provider to show all of their before and after pictures during a consultation.

This will give you an idea of how many times the surgeon has treated this problem and what average results look like.

All men have breast tissue. And some men it develops slightly more than others despite normal male hormone balancer’s.

Without a physical exam, it is hard to say for certain, but given the size of your nipples and the timeline you give gyneocomastia is very likely. Gynecomastia this size could be addressed with liposuction alone, but some excision of the areola would give your chest a more masculine appearance

since you are very self conscious about this, i would recommend surgical reduction. this can be done through an incision in the lower half of your areola. i like to place drains for about 4 days. you can return to work on day 5 and even sooner if you are working from home
