I want lipo. Can I have it done at a hospital instead of a private office?

In many cases doctors such as myself maintain hospital privileges and on-call hours in the hospital and can perform various surgeries in that setting. However if you have been assessed by a board certified plastic surgeon and are a previously healthy individual undergoing and elective procedure there may not necessarily be any greater benefit from having your procedure done in a hospital. Credible Plastic surgeons will take the greatest care to ensure the safety of their patients by having the best equipment and qualified staff. In my experience I have found that my patients much prefer the care and attention they receive in a private practice rather than in the hospital. Hospitals are notorious for getting MERS and other difficult to cure infections since that is where sick people go. Avoid hospitals and avoid general anesthesia and you will be better off.

In our practice we can offer liposuction treatment boat at the hospital and also in the surgery center.  The costs in the case of our center are pretty close together, so it's a matter of choosing a convenience for scheduling for patients, not a matter of additional cost.

I would definitely discuss pricing with your plastic surgeon.  The cost of doing something in the office is usually no more expensive than the hospital setting.   I would also recommend that you consider surgeon experience and credentials as one of your major deciding factors on who to have your surgery with. 

Thank you for your question.  It is definitely possible to have your procedure performed at a hospital to which your surgeon is affiliated.  The cost of surgery involves fees for your facility, anesthesia, and surgeon, the former two should vary based on the where you elect to have your surgery performed.  Each practice will have a different method of receiving payment with some collecting all the money up front and they will take the responsibility of paying all the relevant parties, while other practices will have the patient pay the individual parties on their own.  Hope this helps.

be safely performed in a hospital, but many patients enjoy the ease and
convenience of having this procedure performed at a private office due to the
special attention, care and privacy that is provided. Most liposuction cases are not covered by insurance
and very few are allowed to be performed in the hospital due to the expense of
the procedure.

Generally liposuction can be performed in ambulatory surgery centers vs. the hospital and in general should cost less than if you were to have it in a hospital. Find a board certified plastic surgeon in your area that you are comfortable with and go over the best options for you. Good Luck! 

I personally have never seen hospital costs lower than office or surgery center costs. Office liposuction tends to be the least expensive but has limits. Be aware that some people who are doing liposuction only in their office do so because they cannot get hospital or surgery center privileges for liposuction in the hospital. Beware of this situation. 

In general, it is more expensive for patients to have cosmetic procedures in the hospital than in office surgical facilities.  It is quite safe to have cosmetic procedures such as liposuction performed in accredited office surgical facilities.  My own office surgical facility is accredited by AAASF.
