Will this ledge above my belly button go away or do I need a revision? Also, I have ripples on my sides, will these smooth out? If I need a revision, does a PS typically not charge for it, I paid $6,800 for upper & lower abdomen, flanks and bra fat areas. I am currently 14 weeks postop. Thank you!
Answer
Thank you for submitting your question. Swelling after liposuction will last for many weeks and months after surgery. Final results take 6-12 months. The area above the belly button is very fibrous and the swelling will last longer. Minimizing activities, lymphatic massage, and using a contour garment will help with the swelling. Discuss your concerns with your Plastic Surgeon

It is very common to have bruising and swelling for weeks to months after liposuction procedures. Draining can persist for 1-2 weeks in some instances too. Numbness can last months and can be improved more quickly with oral lyrica or neurontin. What is most important is that you follow your surgeons post operative instructions and continue compression. If you are concerned, lymphatic massage and Velashape or Venus Legacy treatments can be used to improve the swelling and help the skin tighten. My patients start treatments right away and it improves the long term results. Speak to your physician if you are concerned. Best, Dr. Emer.

Usually liposuction results are complete by 3-4 months. You should discuss concerns with your surgeon. A revision my help, but often the result you have is due to underlying muscle, If this is the case, more lipo will not make a difference. An abdominoplasty may be an option.Good luck.

It is always good to review your pre-surgery photos as well. Furthermore, you may have weak muscle that are contributing to your abdominal appearance.
