What are the risk of Lipo the calves?

Lower leg liposuction should be undertaken with caution.  This area is prone to excessive and prolonged swelling.  Contour irregularities and limited/poor results and probably the major risks of the procedure.

Because of the nature of fat distribution in the calves and ankles liposuction is a bit more problematic. Very small cannulas are used because of the increase risk of contour issues.

Thank you for your question. Liposuction can be performed to further define the calve and ankle area but it is a difficult area and deformities can easily occur. This area tends to swell and compression must be worn for 6 weeks at all times.  Small cannnula are best used in those areas. The best cannulas for upper back fat or any area is surgeon preference.  I personally like the mercedes cannulas and spatulated cannulas the best. Best wishes

Liposuction of the calves can be performed, but it can take a while for the swelling to subside and for the final results to be appreciated.  

 the risk of liposuction to the calfs is like any other the area including things like infection, bleeding, bruising, skin irregularity.  What is specific about the calf are the nerves and arteries and veins behind the knee, and the doctor has to be very careful about carrying out liposuction in that area, but in good hands this can be done.  Be sure that you see a board certified plastic surgeon in your area to determine whether you are a good candidate or not.

Many plastic surgeons are hesitant to perform liposuction below the knees. The area is technically difficult in which to work, and patients are at risk for developing swelling and possible long-lasting discomfort. My practice is exclusively devoted to body contouring using liposuction and fat transfer. My experience has included high patient satisfaction with spectacular results when this procedure is done correctly. I don't believe liposuction below the knees has any increased risk for forming blood clots compared with other parts of the body. This is especially true when the procedure is done avoiding the use of general anesthesia.  Let your surgeon choose his or her cannulas. Larger cannulas are more aggressive at removing fat.
