Ridges and unnatural concha bowl after Otoplasty, should I see another surgeon? (photos)

I had Otoplasty done exactly 6 months ago and I am very unhappy with the outcome. I feel as if my ears look unnatural and is there any way I can see a doctor so he can fix it or maybe it’s too soon for my results. I would love to see another surgeon . My concha bowl looks unnatural and my right ear looks bended.

Make a follow-up appointment with your plastic surgeon. There are many revisions that can be done if necessary. Overall, the position of the ear to the head is the most important. Discuss this with your plastic surgeon. Good luck!

There are multiple techniques to perform Otoplasty. However most of the techniques that give a natural result do not destroy the cartilage. I am uncertain of the technique that you had done but the surgeon who performed the surgery is certainly aware. You should always visit your surgeon first if are not happy with your results, explain what you do not like and give your surgeon an opportunity to resolve the problem. There may be options (removal of suture material) that may help and only the surgeon who did your surgery knows. However, if the cartilage was destroyed like in some techniques, that may be hard to correct. With some sort of grafting, that will add tissue that is gone, it may be difficult to improve the results.

One can see that you were operated on with the conventional method. With this method, cartilage is removed and such unattractive results like yours then can occur. If you had been operated on with the Dr Merck Stitch Method, such results would not be possible as the cartilage is left intact with this method. Unfortunately, your result can’t be altered anymore because when cartilage is removed, it never grows back again, and the position of your ears is also fixed by scars.

6 months is a little early to be sure of the final result although I suspect the result will not change that much over the next six months. I would not generally revise an otoplasty until at least 9-12 months had passed since the original surgery.I suggest you return and discuss your concerns with the surgeon who carried out your surgery. It is important you define precisely what you do not like about your result. Unfortunately surgery is not an exact science and it is not possible to guarantee the exact appearance after surgery or revision surgery. It would be helpful to have pictures of your ears before surgery for comparison.Best wishes
