Propose of the head band post otoplasty? If I don't wear it, will my ears shape change?

The main purpose of the headband is to prevent the ears from being disturbed or traumatized. It also aids in assisting the healing process to occur where the ears are positioned. The natural tendency of the ear will be to move back to their original prominent position during the healing phase, so the headband helps overcome that force. We instruct our patients to wear a light elastic headband after the initial head dressing has been removed 24 hours per day through the first week following surgery. It should then be worn approximately for the next 5 weeks or so in the evening hours and at night. If you decide not to wear it, there is certainly a greater risk of accidental trauma to the ear primarily during sleep that may alter your result.

Hi there and thank you for your interest. The shape of your ears has been changed during surgery. Very often, an additional suture is placed to bring the ear closer to the head. The headband is meant to protect your ears, especially when sleeping at night. Wearing the head band will make sure, that you will not be able to pull against your ear (e.g. when turning your head on your pillow or during everyday activities) and compromise the positioning effect of the sutures.
