Tummy tuck without liposuction - how much different is the recovery period?

Liposuction adds a few days to the recovery from a tummy tuck. Liposuction adds more trauma to the suctioned area which results in more bruising and swelling. You should expect a 2 week recovery from the tummy tuck.

Adding liposuction to the back increases soreness and often has swelling that lasts up to 6 weeks, but would only increased the stress of overall healing a small amount.

I appreciate your concerns, however recovery after Tummytuck, with or without liposuction is essentially the same amount of postoperative pain or discomfort. Therefore, all that is required for you individually is to resect your excess skin. There’s no need to add liposuction to this as it would not benefit you and could create complications or leave you with contour irregularities. Post-operatively, patients in our practice are required to get lymphatic massages and are in 2-3 stages of compression garments for 2-3 months. Basically the first week after surgery is the hardest. Your surgeon will prescribe medication to help you manage the pain. You may be slow when moving around and will need to rest frequently throughout the day. However patients are typically able to resume work outside the home after two to three weeks and by six weeks are back to strenuous activities.
