I am 5’1 and currently 162 pounds. I was told by the doctor who is doing my surgery that I need to loose about 20 to 30 pounds in order to be a candidate for a BBL with abdominal etching. I want to make sure that I will have enough fat for a BBL once I loose the 20 to 30 pounds and I want to be a candidate for abdominal etching as well. If you need a lot of fat for a BBL and not a lot of fat for abdominal etching, How are these procedures able to be combined?
Answer: Lower fat body content better ab etch results Without seeing photos, my recommendations are also the same if you are at a higher body fat percentage. There's a few components to abs showing post lipocontouring ab etch - your fat layers need to be thinner over the '6 pack', your skin needs to be less loose, more tight (usually skin gets slightly tighter when you lose weight yourself with toning), and the muscles below need to be of some substance (again, core exercises - ie. pilates, weight lifting). All these need to come into play to have ab etch results that heal well to show, last as the years go by, and refine as you make lifestyle changes (diet, exercise, etc). And as for the BBL part, you will still have fat where your surgeon can harvest and likely will be more than enough (if needed, can take from other areas as well) - discuss this more in detail about the weight loss and what parts of your body will have enough fat for what you are desiring in the fat transfer end product. Another key thing to do, is lose 15 lbs first and then revisit with your surgeon to see if more can be lost for both the ab etch part as well as the bbl part.

Answer: Combining BBL with Abdominal Etching: Candidate Considerations Hello, Thank you for your inquiry. While it's challenging to provide personalized advice without seeing photos, I can offer some general insights into the candidacy for a BBL with abdominal etching. Typically, individuals undergoing a BBL require sufficient donor fat from areas such as the thighs, abdomen, or flanks to achieve desirable augmentation results. However, the amount of fat needed may vary based on individual body composition and aesthetic goals. Abdominal etching, on the other hand, is best suited for individuals with good muscle tone and a relatively fit baseline. This procedure involves sculpting the abdominal muscles to enhance definition and contouring. It's essential to have realistic expectations about the outcomes of abdominal etching and understand that it works by highlighting existing muscle lines through fat removal. Before considering the combined procedure, your plastic surgeon may want to ensure that you don't have excessive loose skin in the abdominal area, as this could impact the results of abdominal etching. Factors such as age, skin quality, and overall health may influence candidacy for both procedures. I recommend scheduling a consultation with your plastic surgeon to assess your suitability for the combined operation. During the consultation, your surgeon can evaluate your physique, discuss your aesthetic goals, and tailor a treatment plan that aligns with your objectives. Ultimately, the decision to proceed with a BBL with abdominal etching should be based on a comprehensive evaluation of your individual needs and considerations. Sincerely, J. Timothy Katzen, MD, FASMBS, FICS Plastic and Aesthetic Surgeon

Answer: Exploring BBL and Ab Etching Options Thank you for your question. Without posting photos, it’s very hard to give you personal advice. However, you should have enough fat in donor regions such as the thighs, abdomen, or flanks to qualify for a BBL. Also, it's important to realize that ab etching works better for people with good muscle tone and a relatively fit baseline. Liposuction removes fat from the abdomen during ab etching to highlight the muscular lines already there. Having a consultation will assess your appropriateness for the combined operation and perform the necessary procedures to achieve the intended outcomes to examine your physique and discuss your options depending on your objectives and the amount of donor fat accessible.

Answer: BBL with abdominal etching Thank you for your query. While we need a significant amount of fat for a BBL procedure, there is a limit to how much fat can be safely injected. Abdominal liposuction with etching may best be done after some weight loss to give you a narrow waist, defined abs and lower back. You may have enough fat, estimated by your surgeon, even after the weight loss, to achieve good contours and curves. Please discuss your concerns with your surgeon who will be able to help you understand. All the best!

Answer: candidate for a BBL with abdominal etching Thanks so much for your inquire, The candidate should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the outcomes of the procedure. Generally, individuals with a BMI of 30 or lower are considered better candidates. Since a BBL involves transferring fat from one area of the body to the buttocks, candidates should have enough fat deposits in areas like the abdomen, hips, or thighs to harvest for the augmentation. The most crucial step in determining candidacy is to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon experienced in performing BBL procedures. During the consultation, the surgeon will evaluate your anatomy, discuss your goals, and assess your overall health to determine if you are a suitable candidate for the procedure. Sincerely, Dr. Emmanuel Mallol
