Sir, I am Skalwin Joseph from Kerala . I am planning to do Hair Transplant. I heard about a new Hair Transplant method . That is MHI (modified hair implantation ). Please tell me is it good. And Please tell me the difference between FUE and MHI.
Answer: The focus should be on RESULTS. Not how a doctor takes out the grafts. There is only one type of hair transplant surgery Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT).Most people misuse FUT terminology to describe the strip surgery as opposed to the FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction).Strip or FUE is just a harvesting technique. The implantation is still the same and there is only one way to do this. The focus should be on RESULTS. Not how a doctor takes out the grafts. From a donor scarring perspective, if you are ever going to shave your head or cut your hair really short, you should probably get the FUE. That is it! Line scars are not an issue for most men and women with long hair (minimum #3 or #2 hair clipper). Just remember a 4000 graft FUE scar is like having a collective open wound hole the size of a baseball on the back of the head. There is nothing minimally invasive about that. We end up performing Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP) and fix horrible FUE scars routinely. These is nothing “scarless” about FUE. You may be on the Internet the ARTAS or NeoGraft type of surgery but it is just a machine or a tool to perform the FUE.Find a doctor who offer FUE, FUT -Strip, ARTAS, NeoGraft etc so you get an unbiased opinion.

Answer: What is MHI? There is no such thing as 'MHI' in the hair transplant literature. There is FUE.It is a known marketing strategy to make up names for an existing technique to make a difference in the market. The goal is to make the patients ask clinics 'Do you perform MHI?'.This was the patient believes this is a good method and chooses from only clinics that do it.He will think that the clinic that doesn't do it isn't up to date on current surgical techniques!

Answer: Tough question, but not your fault Currently, there are really only two methods of hair transplantation. The first is Strip or FUT. This is the gold standard of HT.The second is FUE. This should only be used as an ALTERNATIVE to the first, not a SUBSTITUE. That is, if you can do Strip, you likely should. The problem with FUE is that it's growth yields are typically lower than FUT due to the extra trauma needed to remove them from the scalp. It sounds less "spooky" then FUT because it doesn't involved a long incision, but it typically results in lower growth rates and damages the donor area more than an equivalent FUT.Some clinics will re-label one or both of these procedures for marketing purposes. I've been in practice 22 years and never heard of MHI. Dr. Feller
