32 y.o. 5’5 250 lbs. Looking for abdominal liposuction. I’m training for a law enforcement physical fitness exam. I have the core strength to do sit ups and crunches, however the fat is in the way and prevents me from touching my elbows to my knees (this is required for completing the exercise). I expect loose skin but don't want a tummy tuck at this time. Will lipo remove enough fat? Is it likely that I will recover and be able to exercise my core before June 11th when I'm scheduled to test?

Answer: Liposuction Candidate -- Body Contouring, Diet, Exercise, Surgery, VASER HI DEF 4D LIPO/ 360 Degree Liposculpture You need a formal evaluation by an expert in body shaping and contouring to determine what is best. You will likely need to lose weight first before undergoing any cosmetic procedure to get the best outcome. For best results, it is recommended to be at your ideal or stable weight before getting a sculpting liposuction procedure. Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure; rather, it is for sculpting, defining and removing problem areas that cannot be removed with weight loss, diet and exercise alone. If skin is very loose before surgery, then it will need to be removed: tummy tuck/abdominoplasty for lower abdominal skin; breast lift for excess breast skin; and/or a brachioplasty for loose arm skin. In the meantime, I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a bariatric doctor or dietitian. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Liposuction Liposuction can be performed. 10 lbs can safely be removed during one session of liposuction and the sessions can be repeated if necessary. However, the skin will hang and you will eventually need the skin removed. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Considering liposuction Based on the information provided it is best to lose weight prior to considering surgery. It is recommended patients have a BMI of 30 or under when considering elective plastic surgery. Those above that threshold are at higher risk of complications such as infection seroma and wound healing issues. Once you have reached your weight loss goal a tummy tuck would be recommended to remove excess fat and skin and correct any abdominal wall separation.
