Is tuberous breast deformity considered cosmetic to insurance

Far more important than the technique is the skill and experience of your plastic surgeon. Hello there! First thing is first. Contact your insurance company and speak to someone in member benefits. Each insurance company is different and each policy can differ as well. They will help you get a clear understanding. In my experience the procedure is not generally covered as its an issue with appearance, not with physically hindering and preventing day to day activities. I hope this helps and good luck!

The most common reason to have surgery for tubers breast is cosmetic and therefore surgery is also considered cosmetic. Se your local board certified plastic surgeon who will assist you in your quest for a better, more confident appearance of your breasts.

Dear Mae,    Insurance companies cover only medically necessary surgeries. Tuberous breasts are a cosmetic condition, related more to appearance than health issues. So, in my over 29 years of practice I have seen only few cosmetic surgery cases that were covered by Cadillac insurance of very high executives .   Tuberous breasts are not a simple breasts augmentation and you have to realize that not all results are the same. That is because experience, skills and aesthetic eye are critical for good outcome. So , do your due diligence carefully and choose your surgeon wisely, to avoid bad result and need for corrective surgery.    Always, consult with experienced board certified plastic surgeons who operate in accredited surgery center for your safety. Most importantly, check the before and after pictures of breast augmentation with mini lift (donut, Benneli) in the photo gallery, to make sure that they are numerous, consistent and attractive with nice cleavage, perky, symmetrical and natural looking.                   Best of luck,                                     Dr Widder

Mae.   Tuberous breast deformity is a congenital condition causing unusual shaped breasts and should be covered, but unfortunately usually it is not covered.  Sometimes partial coverage may be extended if there is significant asymmetry. Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. Best of luck!

I have once had an insurance company help a patient with tuberous breast and significant breast asymmetry.  The insurance paid for a lift with a small reduction on the larger breast , but it did not cover the augmentation on the other side to create symmetry.  This was an exceptional situation and still they only partially helped.  It is unlikely insurance would help with the typical tuberous breast concerns that we see, but go see a surgeon to discuss. Good Luck.  

Thanks for your question. We have not been successful in getting insurance companies to cover surgery to correct tuberous breast shape. A lot has been done to improve outcomes associated with the tuberous shape in terms of technique, implant types, etc and while it may not be covered it is certainly "worth it". receive is from an in-person consultation.   Sometimes insurance will cover certain types of severe breast asymmetry, but rarely tuberous breasts.  I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified
plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person.
