Tonsillitis/strep after Kybella treatment. Will this reduce the effectiveness?

Question

Would developing tonsillitis/strep 5 days after a first Kybella treatment reduce the effectiveness of the Kybella? I quickly received an antibiotic, and by 8 days after the first Kybella treatment my tonsils are looking a lot better and I feel good. I felt pretty strong during the tonsillitis/strep, was not bed ridden, went to work, etc. Thank you.

Strep Throat or Tonsillitis and its treatment is unrelated  and has no effect on the results of  Kybella treatment. The one potential issue is that both strep throat and kybella cause throat / neck swelling .

No, this will not negatively impact your results. Keep in mind, Kybella is good for dissolving fat under the chin, but a combination approach is needed to get the most improvement with non-invasive options. I recommend a combination approach with thermage, ultherapy, exilis. VASER liposuction in combination with ThermiRF is the best alternative for contouring the chin. Coming down with tonsillitis from strep should not affect the effectiveness of the Kybella treatment you had prior to the infection.

As a head and neck surgeon who does both inject kybella and manage tonsillitis, I can assure you that the infection is very unlikely to decrease the effectiveness. As long as the infection does not spiral into something more serious requiring hospitalization, etc, etc, you should be fine.

The antibiotics will have no effect on your Kybella treatment and you should not worry about this. The effect of the Kybella occurs very rapidly upon injection and the treatment for your strep throat and tonsillitis should have no impact on your results.

You may expect your Kybella to be effective even with your strep throat. Infection and antibiotic therapy do not interfere with the local activity of the Kybella. Glad you are feeling good - Best wishes.
