I have occipital neuralgia and migraines. Could a face/neck lift irritate my greater and lesser occipital nerves? Do the incisions for face/neck lift potentially effect occipital nerves?
Answer: Face/neck lift with occipital neuralgia Face surgery of this kind will not change your neuralgia; you may experience more frequent episodes for some time (just a possiblity) but in a long run, face/neck lift will not affect your neuralgia. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Answer: Facelift and Occipital Neuralgia Good Morning! Great questions. It depends on where the postauricular / scalp incisions are placed. If you have a Neurologist, I would ask given the proximity of the incisions to make sure you don't experience overly uncomfortable symptoms. If the incisions are limited to more of the front of the ear and face, then you may be OK. Consult with your surgeon as well if you have one in mind to ask the same questions. Best of luck!

Answer: Good question... If you are under the care of a neurologist it would be wise to have your plastic surgeon and neurologist speak with each other about your case. As a general rule, preexisting occipital neuralgia and/or migraines should not necessarily be exacerbated by a face/neck lift. That said, nerve injury is a recognized although rare, potential surgical complication, and neuralgia or dysesthesia can occasionally be seen following any surgery including face/neck lift. If your problem is longstanding and refractory to medical control, you may consider a potential surgical solution to your occipital neuralgia with or without supplemental Botox which has been shown to potentially benefit patients suffering from chronic headaches including migraines. Again, a coordination of treatment between your neurologist and plastic surgeon would be advisable. Best of luck to you.

Answer: Facelifts I wish I could tell you “yes it should be fine”. But the truth is that nobody can give you that guarantee. Also certain conditions get better and worse on their own. It your neuralgia gets worse after you have a facelift, did the facelift cause it or is it a coincidence?
