Is coffee okay before getting ready for surgery?

Other than microsurgery coffee only needs to be held the day of surgery as you shouldn't have anything to eat or drink that day.  It will not affect most types of surgery.

Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery, except as indicated by your plastic surgeon. Coffee has no contraindication the day before your surgery nor after waking up from your surgery. Enjoy your coffee or Starbucks. Smoking on the other hand can cause serious problems to your healing and skin flaps. Avoid smoke, smokers and smoking.

These questions we in our practice discuss very thornily with a patient at their pre-operative visit. Hopefully your surgeon's team did the same. I personally do not see any contra-indications to coffee drinking- unless your family doctor internist or cardiologist have advised otherwise. I do my cases under general anesthesia to guarantee  the most safely and pain free condition for the patient, and therefore all food and drink stops at midnight the night before the surgery.

Drinking coffee is okay as long as it is 8 hours before your surgery time.  With any elective surgery, you want to be healthy and at your stable, goal weight.  Best wishes with your upcoming surgery!

In my practice, I do not ask patients to abstain from coffee prior to or after surgery ( of course, with the exception of nothing to eat or drink after midnight  and the morning of surgery).  Best wishes.

You ask a good question.  You should certainly check with your Plastic Surgeon prior to your tummy tuck to see what he/she feels about the coffee.Coffee contains caffeine, which can cause your blood vessels to constrict and ultimately reduce blood flow to your skin.  The concern with large amounts of caffeine is that it could cause wound healing problems or skin death after your tummy tuck.You don't seem to drink THAT much, but to be safe I would tell you to hold off on caffeine for a few weeks prior to your surgery.  Caffeine free coffee, tea, and soda is fine and safe.  You can never be too cautious, especially in an elective cosmetic surgery.
