How soon after a c-section can I get lipo and a tummy tuck?

I am about 7 months pregnant and will soon be scheduling my 2nd c section. How soon after would I be able to have these two surgeries one for the liposuction to get rid of the fat and the tummy tucks to tighten that loose skin?

In general, I like my patients to have lost their baby weight, stopped breast feeding, and resume their normal activity level. Usually patients are ready by about 4 to 6 months.

Hello and thank you for your question. I would recommend waiting 6 months from the birth of your child before having a tummy tuck.  A tummy tuck can be done through a low and short
incision, all completely below the bikini line. 
The belly button can be designed to look natural and have no scars on
the exterior.   Your muscles can also be
plicated resulting in a flat abdomen. 
Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of
real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate
their results.  The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are
comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified
board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person.

Most plastic surgeons will like you to wait at least 6 months after delivery to give your body adequate time to heal from the c-section. This also gives you time to lose any weight you may have gained during your pregnancy. Hope this helps!

I would recommend waiting a minimum of 3 months after your c-section to have tummy tuck and liposuction.  Prior to your tummy tuck, you want to ensure that you are 1) medically, physically, and socially optimized, and 2) have reached your stable goal weight.  Please consult a board-certified plastic surgeon to be examined in-person and to learn about surgery and recovery process.  Tummy tuck and liposuction are routinely performed at the same time.Good luck with your delivery; best wishes.

I think most people would not do a tummy tuck at the same time as a C-section.  First of all during pregnancy, the tendency towards blood clotting is increased in preparation for delivery of the baby. Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, tightens the muscles and does slow the venous return of blood from the legs which may increase this clotting tendency as well.  I personally prefer to wait until the mother has stopped nursing for at least several weeks before a tummy tuck.Dr. Wilcox

Thank you for reaching out! I would suggest that you are within 10 pounds of your happy weight and are at least 6 months post c-section. Maybe start going to some consultations around 6 months post op from your c section and decide from there what will work best. Something else to consider is that a tummy tuck is an intense surgery and having a very young baby that you can not lift for a few weeks might be tough. Best of luck! Dr. Kim

I like for my patients to be about 6 months out from having a baby, if not longer.  They need to be no longer breast feeding, and weight needs to be stable for 3 months, and preferably at their ideal weight.  This helps maximize your investment and helps get you the best results.
