My surgeon wants to try the SF placement because I am a fit active person and into weighlifting. I have read that it has the same rate of Capsular contracure than subglandular but then I have also seen recent studies that show it does not but there is a lack of research that ahow the long-term of this placement. Is this placement safe in the long term? And is capaular contracture really lower than Subglandular?

Answer: Sub facial breast augmentation is an excellent option. While capsular contracture is possible after any breast augmentation, the 14 step protocol of Dr. Bill Adams, for preparing patients and their skin prior to a breast augmentation, has decreased the rate of capsular contracture down to less than 1%. Performing a sub facial breast augmentation gives one additional layer of tissue between your breast tissue and the implant. It is excellent choice if you would like to minimize the risk of implant animation after your breast augmentation. The lifetime risk of capsular contracture after breast augmentation is 8 to 12%. This is decreased whether the implant is put under the breast, under the fascia or underneath the muscle. Other factors impact upon the risk of capsular contracture, including a PERSONEL/family history of auto immune disease, choice of a large implant, etc. Have a detailed discussion regarding your choices with your plastic surgeon. Best wishes.
