Can nostril or septum piercing holes be kept open during rhinoplasty?

Taylor piercings and septal piercings may close after rhinoplasty surgery. That said, re-piercing through the same place is always an option. I believe that a membranous septal piercing would be more likely to close than an alar piercing. Hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr. Joseph

Much depends on the exact site of the piercing. But if it gets closed you can always get it repierced

Hi, It is better for you to consult with your facial plastic surgeon who can examine you and give you opinion based on examination. Usually they will close with healing process of the nose, better to wait at least 1 month to do them again.

A nostril piercing is not nearly as problematic in considering rhinoplasty surgery as a septal piercing. If you are considering a rhinoplasty and have not yet pierced your septum I would strongly encourage you to avoid doing so before surgery. Depending on your concerns, it is very common to access your septum during surgery. This involves elevating the tissues off of the cartilage and can also require borrowing some of this cartilage for other structural purposes. Septal piercing will complicate this, if it is necessary. You can return the nostril piercing after ~2-3 weeks assuming everything has healed without concerns.

The septal piercing holes are usually located right along the incision line for a rhinoplasty, so they'll be removed at the time of the surgery itself. Best to leave all piercings out of the nose for at least one month after the surgery. Rhinoplasty is one of the most difficult procedures to perform correctly in the entire field of cosmetic surgery, so choose your surgeon very wisely based on extensive experience producing natural results.

Each surgeon will have their own preferences on how to manage piercings during and after surgery.
It’s very common for all jewelry, including piercings to removed during the procedure.
The timeframe of when you can put the hardware back simply depends on each provider.
Personally, I don’t find hardware or piercings to be a big deal and usually put them back right after surgery.
If you have a provider, I suggest you ask him or her.
