This lump appeared in 2020 on my left inner eyelid. The crazy thing is it is only visible when I close my eyes. Either way I don't like it and want it gone. In 2021, I went to an eye doctor and the visit felt rushed and the doctor wasn't very sympathetic. The Dr. said it is a chalazion but I'm not sure. I did warm compresses 2x/day for months and it didn't go away. It has been 2 years, can this be surgically removed? does it appear to be a chalazion?

Answer: It its not impossible that it is a chalazia, just very unlikely. It is in a location where it could be herniated eyelid fat. The fact of the matter, you need a detailed examination. Your potential surgeon will need to physically examine your eyelid to make an educated guess regarding the nature of this lesion. if seems likely to be a chalazia, it is possible that treatment could be a kenalog injection. However if this seems more likely to be herniated fat, surgery is needed to address it. I recommend seeing a fellowship trained oculoplastic surgeon. The American Society for Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the Oculofacial Society maintains a regional directory on their website that can help you find a highly qualified surgeon close to home that you can see.

Answer: Is this a chalazion? This is really not in the correct location for a chalazion, but it still might be. It is not possible to give you an answer form these photos. You need to see a fellowship trained Oculoplastc surgeon for an in person exam and consultation. Typically these are daily easy to remove, but you need to see an Oculoplastic surgeon to determine if any vital structures such as your tear drainage apparatus are involved.
