I got a BBL 2 years ago and am obviously healed at this point but recently underwent breast augmentation surgery which requires me to sleep on my back elevated for a couple months so is it possible for my butt to flatten or lose butt fat by sleeping on my back for such a long period of time? I haven’t slept on my back since my BBL back in 2021 and It feels tingly and makes me paranoid of losing my butt volume. Is it possible to flatten or lose my transferred butt fat at this point?
Answer: Sleeping on back after bbl Hello, thank you for your question. Typically the fat that has survived after 8 m -1 year usually wont be affected anymore with pressure from sitting on it. Of course speak to your plastic surgeon about this to see if there are any issues.

Answer: Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) "Thank you for your question. By the two-year mark post-BBL, the transferred fat cells that have survived have integrated with your existing tissue and receive blood supply like any other fat cells in your body. While the immediate postoperative period after a BBL is crucial for ensuring the viability of the transferred fat cells, once you are fully healed, as you are, the transferred fat behaves like normal fat. Sleeping on your back for a couple of months after your breast augmentation should not cause your buttocks to flatten or lead to a significant loss of transferred fat. The tingling sensation might be related to a change in your sleeping position rather than any impact on the fat itself. However, if you notice any significant changes or have concerns, it's always a good idea to consult with your plastic surgeon. They can offer guidance specific to your case and put your mind at ease."

Answer: Fat viability Dear destindream2, 2 years after surgery, you should be able to sleep on your back. I instruct my patients not to sit for 2 solid weeks. We provide them a specialized pillow that our patients can sit on during that time. They can sleep on their stomachs or sides. Fat viability depends a lot of surgeon technique. The fat has to be placed back into the buttocks as soon as possible so that it has a greater chance of survival. It has to be placed carefully so that not too much fat is placed in only one area. Answer: Sleeping on back causing transferred fat from 2 year BBL to disappear or flatten? Hello @destindream2, thank you for your question. No, sleeping on your back won't cause fat cells to die, desappear or flatten. The fat cells that survived your Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure have established themselves and shouldn't be affected by your sleeping position. When fat cells are transferred, they behave just like the other fat cells. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS.
