2 Kybella treatments and no change, what do I do? (Photos)

Thank you for your question. In my experience, Kybella usually requires a minimum of 5-6 treatments for optimal results. It's possible you just need more product. Follow up with your injector and discuss your concerns.

Kybella takes a series of treatments and most patients need at least 3 to begin to see improvement. Neck liposuction is an alternative. Neck Liposuction is best for patients that:
1)  Want a single treatment 
2)  One recovery time-  Downtime for neck liposuction require wearing a wrap around face for 1 week. 3)  Less painful 
4)  Quicker results 
5)  Cost is a concern
Neck liposuction is a quick surgical procedure that can be complete while the patient is awake.  It cost around the same price a Kybella and can be less in patients with heavier necks.  The single recovery of neck liposuction may be a better option for some patients.
 

Kybella needs a combination approach and a series of treatments. For best results with Kybella, I recommend a combination approach with thermage, ultherapy, exilis. VASER liposuction in combination with ThermiRF is an alternative for contouring the chin, if you're a candidate. Based on your shape, I would not waste money on anything but a neck lift.
I would advise you to choose your surgeon carefully – creating a natural lift at a young age requires great surgical judgment and skill.  Considering you will likely have at least one more lift as you age, it is very important that the foundations for that future surgery are laid during your first procedure, as well.
While it may sound unusual, it is sometimes perfectly appropriate to recommend and perform a neck lift, or even a lower face and neck lift, in younger patients.
As in your case, most of these patients never had a sharp neck/jawline, or have a genetic tendency toward a falling neck.
Getting the prettiest and most natural results in cases like yours requires an expertly-done deep neckilft. Liposuction, Kybella, Coolsculpting, mirconeedling, etc will not create a similar result.

Kybella is a great product but it is possible that they didn't inject enough Kybella to see a difference.  Kybella has to be marked properly before injecting and the correct amount has to be used otherwise you will see minimal results.  It appears from the photos that you may have been a better candidate initially for the Coo-mini to reduce the bulk of the fat and then have the remainder treated with Kybella. Thank you for your question. We recommend a minimum of 3 sessions in order to see a good result. Kybella is an excellent, nonsurgical injectable treatment to permanently reduce submental fat (double chin). If you are not happy with your results from Kybella, you may want to consider a submental liposuction. In my practice we perform this under local anesthesia using a microcannula which minimizes surgical scarring. This is also the safest method of liposuction. For best results, always consult with a board certified cosmetic surgeon with experience. Best of luck to you.

Kybella is actually great at reducing fat under the chin; however, you need lots of it.  You didn't get nearly enough and that is why you're not going to see great results. You probably needed closer to 4 (even five) vials the very first time and you probably should have received at least 3 on second visit.  Swelling can last for weeks after kybella regardless of doses.  Unfortunately, kybella is an expensive product especially when it really takes many vials to make a difference.  If this area is really bothering you, realize that you will need to either spend more money on kybella or consider seeing a plastic surgeon for liposuction.  I wouldn't even recommend other non-invasive fat melting alternatives for this area. In the end you'll spend too much money on these treatments for modest results, when for a bit more you can have a fairly quick surgery and know you will have permanent results.  Good luck!

At this point it's probably best to quit wasting your money and consider performing liposuction which is one time minor surgical procedure which should be able to accomplish your goals. In our practice, we do not recommend Kybella for this very reason

Hi. Thanks for your message and for posting photos. You are a good candidate for Kybella however it sounds like you are being underdosed. In our practice we would start with closer to 3-4 vials per treatment with a range of 2-3 treatments. If you do not wish to proceed with Kybella you may want to consider Coolsculpting Mini which is fat freezing of the area, however, you would need an in person consult to ensure you fit the applicator appropriately. Hi there-- I disagree with doctors who try to predict how many treatments you may need based on how much fat you have. I have seen patients with very little fat need 4 treatments and I've seen patients with more fat need fewer. It is hard to predict. I tell everyone that it ranges from 2-6 treatments and you won't see results for at least 6-8 weeks after your second treatment. You have to be patient. However-- it DOES work, and you can get there eventually with no scarring. If you want a quick one and done, do liposuction. The scars are usually small and though the recovery isn't as quick as many would hope, one treatment usually gets the job done. I also think that based on your pictures, 1 vial per treatment is probably not enough.
