4 weeks post second dose of Kybella, will the hard place under my chin disappear? (photos)

Thank you for your question. This is fairly common and should subside. I suggest giving it a bit more time. Follow up with your provider if symptoms do not improve. 

It may take several weeks for this to resolve. Kybella take 1-3 treatments every 6 weeks.  Patient will develop swelling and possible bruising after each injection. The benefit of Kybella is each treatment is quick and completed in the office. However, some patients need more than one treatment to get desired results. 

Lymphatic massage may give improvement. It will take several weeks for final results with Kybella and it will need a combination approach. For best results with Kybella, I recommend a combination approach with thermage, ultherapy, exilis. VASER liposuction in combination with ThermiRF is an alternative for contouring the chin, if you're a candidate. Dear asimmons74,Kybella typically takes 3 to 5 treatments to work. This is why I've stopped carrying Kybella in my office.  I recommend neck liposuction more often then any injectable procedure for the neck now. It provides superior results gives me more control over the area than any injectable.  It also costs about the same as what you paid for your first kybella session. The liposuction can be done under local while awake in the office and recovery is about the same as kybella.Daniel Barrett, MD

I inject a lot of Kybella and you can often have a small nodule or swelling that takes longer to resolve in certain areas. I would be patient and give it another few weeks. If it doesn't heal up I would return to your treating physician for examination.  Best, Dr. Green

It is very common for patients to experience a hard lump under the chin following a Kybella injection.  As Kybella uses deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that helps break down fat, the results from a treatment are not immediate.  Injecting Kybella causes fat cells to be destroyed, and can take weeks for the body to break down the targeted fat cells. As this process takes place, side effects like a hard lump or numbness around the injection site may continue in some patients for up to 6 weeks.  If the hard lump persists longer than 6 weeks, or feels warm and tender, you may want to consider following up with your doctor.

Hi there-- when fat dies it often forms tender lumps that can take weeks or even months to go away. I treat my Kybella patients with a shock-wave device 1 week after treatment (I use Cellutone but there are others) in order to break up those lumps and help your body process the lipids. Stay really well hydrated and active, massage can help a little, and they will eventually resolve.

Hard areas are normal after Kybella, and may take two months to resolve. Be patient. The bigger question is whether your skin has enough elasticity to contract after the fat is gone. See a facial plastic surgeon after recovery to learn your options.Good luck!

I find there is usually a hard lump or tender area for several months after kybella.  After 1 month, I usually have patients try using warm compresses to the area. If you are not better in another month, I would most definitely contact your provider.

After each treatment, the amount of swelling and bruising may vary after each session.
