I wish to have lift w/augment but I've had high platelets. I'm a very healthy 31-year old aside from that and I've seen a hematologist (two, actually; one did bone marrow biopsy "just to be safe", the other thought it was unnecessary). Neither hematologist has answers for why this is occurring, other than "sometimes this just happens", and one hematologist thought no course of action was necessary while the other thought hydrea should be prescribed. Will this keep me from surgery?

Answer: High Platelet Count?
If clearance for the procedure is granted from the hematologist, the breast lift surgery can be performed. Find a plastic surgeon with ELITE credentials who performs hundreds of breast lift procedures each year. Then look at the plastic surgeon's website before and after photo galleries to get a sense of who can deliver the results. Kenneth Hughes, MD Los Angeles, CA

Answer: High platelet count doesn't automatically disqualify you from cosmetic surgery
Thrombocytosis (high platelet count) doesn't necessarily mean that you have a "hypercoagulable" state or tendency to make clots. You are to be commended for having investigated this lab finding with appropriate specialists. When you settle on the practice for your op, do disclose this, so the PS can consult with your Hematologist to determine whether there will be any intra-op or post-op precautions. Good luck!
