One breast swollen significantly and feels hot after breast surgery 3 days ago.

Question

I got my breast augmentation 3 days ago, i had under the muscle one 400cc an other _375cc my smaller implant seems fine but small an painless were as my 400cc is swollen dramatically an is feelin hot. Like no redness or bruises just heat coming off this one breast. I can hear an feel fluid in my lower adom underneath rib. My nurse is not around an cannot find any answers!

Thanks for the question. In my practice, after performing a BA I recommend to my patients to limit the movement of the arms for two weeks. After that, you can move your arms taking care and always with common sense. In this regard, it's not advisable to carry heavy weights to prevent the implant out of position, and allow the formation of the physiological capsule around the implant, also to avoid pain and breast swelling. Kind regards

There is often more swelling on one side versus the other. When one side is much different than the other, it is a good idea to see your surgeon to be sure that you do not have a collection of fluid such as a hematoma which could adversely affect your result.

While it is common for one breast to swell a bit more than the other with two different sized implants, you should be assessed in person to rule out serious issues like hematoma. I recommend that you call your Plastic Surgeon's office or on call number. If you cannot reach them and you are concerned, you could be seen in an ER.All the best

Thank you for your question.  Increased swelling, redness, warmth or fever are all reasons to be evaluated by your plastic surgeon.  The fluid that you hear is likely from an antibiotic irrigation fluid that is often used during a breast augmentation.  Best of luck.

Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry to hear of your recovery difficulties.  Without photographs it is difficult to offer definite recommendations and I would make an appointment to see your surgeon sooner than later.  Your symptoms may be due to a normal recovery or may herald an infection.  There should be someone on-call for his office who can help you determine the best course of action.

The most common cause of a difference between the two sides 3 days after breast surgery is just swelling.  However, other possibilities include a seroma, hematoma, or infection.
The classic signs of an infection are heat, swelling, pain, and redness.  
I suggest that you call your doctor immediately to be evaluated.

Sounds like you need to see your surgeon.Is this due to a hematoma or is this an early infection developing.Monitor your temp and see your doctor.

Post operative swelling and redness are very normal. But if the breast is "hot" there could be other issues besides normal healing. Call your surgeon's office as soon as possible to be seen by them and possibly start any treatment necessary. Best of luck.
