After the first week following surgery, you can have sex as soon as you feel comfortable enough to do so. That being said, sexual activity should not involve your breasts for 6 weeks from the time of surgery. While this may sound conservative, a capsule is forming around the breast implant and bleeding can occur if the the capsule is unintentionally ruptured during it's development. Such a rupture can be due to aggressive manipulation of the breast and can occur within the first few to several weeks after surgery. Even small tears that lead to small bleeds can theoretically lead to capsular contractures.
In theory you can engage in sexual activity the day after surgery. Specially if the implant is not placed under the muscle (e.g subfascial) in which case you will have very minimal pain. However, it is important to:not have your blood pressure increased, which can cause bleeding and short or long term complications for the implant, not have the implant displaced due to aggressive squeezing. Therefore, I usually permit sexual activity a week after surgery with care and totally normal activity 6 weeks post surgery.Hope this helps,Ali Rıza Öreroğlu, MD FEBOPRASEuropean and Turkish Board Certified Aesthetic, Plastic and Reconstructive SurgeonIstanbul, Turkey
Most surgeons will tell you to wait at least 2 weeks. The reason is that we don't want your blood pressure rising too much as that can lead to a blood collection around the implant called a hematoma. You should also avoid all other activities that raise your blood pressure, like working out or getting overly excited. After 2 weeks, you should approach it carefully. Avoid movements that can cause you or your partner to dislodge the placement of the implant for about 6 weeks. You should also follow the advice of your plastic surgeon. Hope this helps.
I'll instruct my patients no heavy bouncing of the breasts for 3 weeks you can do gentler activity sooner.Sincerely Dr Gartner
I appreciate your question. Typically, my guideline is, the first week is the hardest. By the second week you feel better, at four weeks you feel 100% and at six weeks you can go back to complete normal routines and exercising. I recommend for my patients no strenuous activity or heavy lifting for 6-8 weeks following surgery.Four days after surgery, I would be careful as you are still at risk for bleeding. If you are taking any pain medication, I would not drink alcohol. Please discuss with your surgeon. The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam. Please see a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic plastic surgery. Best of luck! Dr. Schwartz Board Certified Plastic Surgeon #RealSelf100Surgeon #RealSelfCORESurgeon
We tell our patients to resume an active sex lift once they feel comfortable. You do not want to be rough with your implants or apply pressure for several weeks, but a good, active sex life is healthy. As long as you feel good enough to resume sexual activity go for it! Best of luck!
Thank you for your question. Sex is exercise. You should not participate in any activities that can significantly raise your heart rate or cause excessive movement in your breasts for a week or two after your breast augmentation. The antibiotics that you are taking to prevent infection may interfere with your birth control pills, so use another form of protection while you are on antibiotics.
It's always best to consult with your surgeon and follow their protocols. In my practice I let my patients return to sexual activiy when they are ready.
Hi there, Thank you for the question. We tell our patients it is best to wait a full 6 weeks before performing any sexual activities. Best, realdrsix
I love the answers to these questions ( I think men and women have a totally different perspective). I tell my patients to resume normal activities gradually, and basically, if it hurts--don't do it. Everyone's sex life is totally different but intercourse will not compromise the result of a breast augmentation. Good luck, Jane
