Answer: Revision too soon Final results for a tummy tuck aren't seen for about nine to twelve months, so it is a bit early to consider a revision. However it is not too early to discuss your concerns with your surgeon. It is important that you feel comfortable and confident in your recovery.

Answer: Tummy tuck revision Dear SSmith85, I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment, it would be difficult to determine what went wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment or ask for a second opinion. Only after a thorough examination, you can get proper recommendations and advice. Answer: 3 months post TT I feel it is too early to consider a revision abdominoplasty at 3 months post-op. A physical exam may answer some of the questions on the convexity of the lower abdomen. Best wishes, Dr. Taranow

Answer: Tummy tuck results To make an assessment on the outcome of a cosmetic surgery procedure we always need to see you proper before and after pictures. If you don’t have before and after pictures then ask your surgeon to forward the ones they took. I suggest you discuss your concerns with your provider to see what he or she has to say. Most plastic surgeons I’m going to recommend waiting at least six months if not longer before considering a revision. Before contemplating having a revision you need to have a clear understanding of what the problem is. There’s no point in redoing the operation if the result is going to be the same. There are generally four valuables the determine what someone’s abdomen looks like. This is true whether someone has had a tummy tuck or not. The four variables are abdominal skin laxity, excess subcutaneous fat, muscle separation or excess visceral fat. Typically if someone is unhappy with their abdomen after the procedure the problem is usually one of those four. The most common reason people bulge after a tummy tuck is the presence of excess of visceral fat which requires weight loss in order to get a flat abdomen. Differentiating visceral fat versus insufficient muscle tightening should not be all that difficult. Without seeing before and after pictures we really can’t make a good assessment. Your pictures show a fairly typical tummy tuck results. Based on those it appears your surgeon what they were doing. When taking pictures either I have someone else pick the picture or use the timer on your camera. Avoid taking pictures using mirrors. Ask your surgeon to take a set a formal before and after pictures and you can discuss your concerns about the outcome at the same time. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
