Is red bruising normal after fillers? (photo)

Thanks for the question and photos. Based on the images, it does appear you are experiencing some bruising and swelling, which are both normal after dermal fillers. I would expect these side effects to subside within a couple of weeks. However, if you have other symptoms like pain or if the side effects get worse instead of better, I would schedule a follow-up appointment with your injector right away to ensure a vascular occlusion is not occurring. 

Hello and thank you for your question and photo. The fact is that any time a needle is introduced under the skin, bruising, swelling and soreness are bound to happen. When I inject, I do all that I can to decrease your risk of bruising and swelling by using Micro-cannulas, tiny gauge needles and AccuVein vein finder. Bruising and swelling are transient and resolve on their own even without doing any of the below recommendations within one to two weeks.

Here is what you can do to heal your bruises faster.

Hello - don't be alarmed, bruising is perfectly normal with lip injections since a serious amount of trauma is done to the lips. It is also normal for bruising to be a red-ish color on the lips.
Take some all-natural Arnica to help bruising go down quickly.

Based on the photo it does appear to be a bruise. These are not uncommon. In the future you can consider the use of cannula which minimizes this. There also appears to be a bit of swelling of the lips especially the upper lip. The optimal ration of upper to lower is 1:1.6 though some have gone to close to 1:1 depending on the patients profile and needs. The big worry here is vascular occlusion which can result in a permanent scar. if your lips continue to be painful or if it is expanding or getting worse make sure you see a dermatologist or plastic surgeon immediately. These are still medical procedures and I believe they should only be done by physicians who know anatomy very well. ie) Dermatology, Plastic surgery or ENT. With anything else / less you are taking a much bigger risk. Good luck

Based on the photo, although it's taken at an angle and is not very clear, it looks like a bruise that will go away soon.

Bruising after filler injection to the lips is common. If the bruise is not expanding (as in the rare instance of hematoma), it is perfectly innocent and will resolve within a week or so. A bruise can be "reddish" or "bluish"

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, bruising is a very common side effect after a lip augmentation. It would be best to take Arnica montana to help with the appearance of bruising. This should continue to subside throughout the week. Best of luck!
