Why are my feet and ankles swollen after surgery?

It is very common to have swelling after a liposuction procedure, especially in your feet and ankles if you received liposuction on your lower body. Swelling tends to wax and wane over the course of 3 months after your procedure, and will continually improve with time. Elevating your feet will help to alleviate swelling in your feet and ankles.

Feet and ankles usually take a little longer to go down, this is not uncommon try to avoid salt and drink plenty of fluids. Continue to follow up with your PS.

You can expect some swelling after surgery, especially if you had liposuction of your thighs. I would suggest limiting salt, wearing compression stockings on your legs and feet, walking, and elevating your legs when sitting or laying down. As the swelling elsewhere goes down, the swelling in your legs and feet should subside.

Feet and hands often swell after surgery.   The wetting solution is partially responsible.   Keep salt low. Keep feet elevated,  avoid salt.   Drink clear liquids that are salt free or very low.    My Best,    Dr Commons.

It is common for the feet/ankle area to swell after the liposuction procedure.  I instruct my patients to elevate their feet, frequent ambulation and monitor the amount of sodium in the diet during the recovery period to help reduce the swelling.
