If I didn't wear my compression garment as advised will it impact my final results?

Asalon25.    The elastic garment used for the neck and lower face region after liposuction is somewhat uncomfortable, and I have had patients who have had similar complaints to yours. That particular region does not require elastic garment compression as long as other regions because of location and better blood supply of the face region. I do not think your result will be compromised. However best to follow up with your plastic surgeon.  Good luck!

Thank you for your question. I  have my liposuction patients wear a compression garment (faja) covering all treated 24/7 except to shower for 4 weeks post op.  This helps ontrol swelling as the compression on your tissues helps your body to reabsorb the edema fluid that accumulates in the tissues after any procedure. This can take quite some time to happen without help from the compression garments.  It also helps improve  contour.  Compression helps to keep the tissues adherent to the underlying structures while healing, this can help prevent the wrinkled skin appearance that can happen when the tissues heal in ways we don't want them to.

The best answer will come from the PS who performed your surgery.  In my experience, the patients who tend to have healing issues tend to be the ones who do not wear the compression garments at all, wear them very inconsistently, or do not wear them snugly. Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Hi, in the healing process using a compression garment is a must. It function is to reduce excessive swelling. It also help to reduce bruising and provides the patient abdominal support preventing any complication such as seroma. Be safe.

Soem surgeons use them and others do not, so I do not think it makes or breaks the results..........

When someone spends money on a cosmetic procedure and then doesn’t comply with post op instructions, it always gives me pause. If your garment was uncomfortable, did you call your surgeon to inquire?  Perhaps an alternative could have been provided.  At this point, it would not be beneficial to start trying to wear it. Only your surgeon would have a good perspective on the consequence.
