Realistically, how much will my nasal tip drop and when will it happen? (Photo)

Question

I am 10 days post-op; hump removed & tip refined. Despite me saying I liked my angle, doc insisted it'll be very slight; 105 since I'm taller? I stated multiple times, do not make my nose go up at all. Splint came off & despite my shock, doc said it'll drop "just a little bit. 110 or maybe 107." Will my tip drop in the next couple weeks to where it won't look upward or should I ask about a revision? I hear a revision with this should be done asap. Thanks so much for any advice.

There are changes that occur to the shape of the nose over the next few months.  Ask you surgeon if there could be any role for gentle massage of your tip downward during this time.  If a revision is necessary, you do not necessarily need to wait a year.

At only 10 days post op there is significant swelling present in the nose.  This will gradually dissipate over several months.  During this time there may be some change in the amount of tip rotation visible, however, this is generally not a great deal of change.  Revision would not be performed in most cases until the swelling has subsided.

Hello and thank you for your question.  It is very normal to be swollen at 10 days postoperative.  The dorsal aspect of the bridge of the nose will usually decrease earlier than the nasal tip swelling.  Nasal tip swelling can sometimes take 6-12 months to fully resolve.  I advise patients that the final result of rhinoplasty takes 12 months.  I recommend that you return to see your surgeon, as he/she will have a good idea of what to expect in regards to your specific progress, since they can evaluate you in relation to your preoperative appearance.Best wishes and good luckRichard G. Thank you very much for enquire.It's too early to make value judgments with only 10 days after a rhinoplasty.Swelling after a rhinoplasty depends of the surgery complexity.In this regard, the nasal swelling Post-op It can last from two weeks to two months.To reduce this swelling, I recommend you perform delicates daily lymphatic drainage massage therapy over the face (around the nose) avoid sun exposure, and take pain/inflamation pills, as your surgeron precribe you.Kind regards, Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.

The nasal tip angle may drop a bit as the swelling subsides, but I would not expect it to drop to 90-95 degrees if that is what you are thinking.

There is a lot of swelling early after a rhinoplasty but the angle of the tip does not usually change that much. The tip projection will decrease as the swelling resolves which will improve the look but the angle, not so much. See your doctor in regular follow up appointments for best advice. Good luck.

Ten days is early but I can certainly see your concern. The nose currently appears over-shortened and the tip is over-rotated. The technique used to position the tip during surgery will determine how much change over time to expect. If the tip cartilages were sewn to the end of the septum (tongue-in-groove) then there will not be much change in the tip position. Your surgeon is in the best position to counsel you on this issue. If there is no improvement then a revision procedure can be discussed. There is no reason to rush into a revision this soon after surgery, especially if your surgeon expects improvement in the tip position. Best of luck.
