Hi I had an open faced rhinoplasty 11 days ago. To straighten my crooked nose as well as deviated septum and he did a turbinate reduction also. I think my nose is still really a swollen but I am not happy with how it looks right now. I feel it looks to "fake". I just wanted him to straighten it and he did minor work on the tip as well. My tip was already a "ball". But now it is extremely boulbous. Also I think I feel plastic in my nose, is this correct?!. He also took the bump away.
Answer: Nose change after rhinoplasty Hello. It's understandable to feel concern, but it is too early to make any judgement on the results. There will be soft tissue swelling for several months, and the final results won't be seen until at least a year after surgery. Certain things such as a dorsal profile after hump reduction should be evident by one month, but tip changes take longer. The best thing right now is be patient and make sure you follow up with your surgeon as planned so that he/she can examine and determine your healing. Good luck.

Answer: Will my nose change a lot after an open rhinoplasty? Not happy with results so far Hello rhina5018,At post op day 12 you still have a significant amount of swelling. The nose, and especially the tip, tend to hold onto the swelling more than other areas. You will likely need a steroid injection to help with the tip to reduce swelling. At two weeks you will still have about 20% of your maximum swelling. As far as what you are feeling, there were likely some grafts used to help keep the structures in place. These are not plastic but rather your own cartilage (you would have to verify this with your surgeon). The nose does feel strange immediately after an open rhinoplasty, and you may also be feeling some of the sutures. I'd recommend you follow up with your surgeon to discuss your concerns. At this point you are still only evaluating the healing process and not the result. If you are not pleased with your surgeon and your aftercare, then consider consulting with a facial plastic surgeon. I hope this helps and good luck.

Following an open rhinoplasty it can take up to 12 months before your final results are realized.
