Will alcohol or marijuana be detrimental to my recovery from minor gynocomastia surgery?

Im going to a concert 12 days after gyno surgery on one side. No lipo, just removal of the gland. my surgeon said there was no need to wear a compression vest due to the minor nature and success of the surgery. I was hoping to have a few beers (not a huge drinker anyway so no shots) and maybe a joint or two at the concert but do not want to if it will be very detrimental to my recovery. I Will have stitches removed one week after surgery wanted to ask peoples opinion before I do anything.

Thank you for sharing your question and congratulations on your procedure.  In general it is not wise to smoke or drink alcohol for at least 4 weeks after any procedure no matter how small as it can affect your scarring.  I would refrain from such activities until cleared by your surgeon and also remember that marijuana and excessive alcohol consumption can cause gynecomastia formation.  Hope this helps.

most surgeons will be more conservative but i really think that those small quantities will have no effect on your healing, if it is looking good. Of course, infections and problems can always happen, and just because it would occur, i find it hard to believe, it was because you had 2-3 beers.have fun at your concert.david berman md
