Liposuction at any age is great if it is needed and so easy to undergo under local. With your parents consent, at age 16 it is very often done and is only $2750 on special.
I treat this everyday in my practice. Properly performed liposuction with laser and physical fat removal will do fantastic to remove the fat, lift the skin, and contour the jawline. I pretreat everyone with Botox 1-2 weeks before surgery to relax the neck muscles, allowing for better retraction of the skin after surgery. Then after treatment we do skin tightening with Venus Legacy to improve the results and decrease the neck swelling. I suggest you only see an expert for treatment of this area as a meticulous surgeon is required to get great results and complications in this area can be devastating both medically and cosmetically. Best, Dr. Emer.
Thank you for your question. If, in fact, your daughter has an excess of fat below her chin and her appearance is not due to other factors such as jaw size and position of underlying structures, then liposuction of the submental ( below the chin) area can be very effective in improving her profile and enhancing her jaw line. With a BMI of 20 she should be an excellent candidate for the procedure. You should take her to a consultation with an experienced plastic surgeon certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery and also preferably a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the California Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Lina,Its possible, liposuction of the neck is sometimes an effective way to sculpt the jaw line. It doesn't do much for skin laxity but will removed excess fat. I would schedule a visit with plastic surgeon to see what her options are. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any more questions.Dr. Daniel BarrettPlastic SurgeryBeverly Hills, CA
This is difficult to say without a picture or a formal exam in the office with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. I perform many surgeries on teenagers and it just depends on how mature and ready they are for a surgery. Faces and bodies change due to aging and weight gain and loss. Having said that liposculpture can certainly help in the area of the neck and jowl lines. Good Luck,Andrew Cohen,MD
Cosmetic surgery is not all that different from providing other forms of medical treatments.Regardless of the age of the patient, there has to be an appropriate risk-to-benefit ratio. The overall maturity and judgment of the patient is always critical but more so when dealing with young people.I think most plastic surgeons are slightly more conservative when offering cosmetic surgery to minors. It is, of course, also imperative that parents or guardians approve of the procedure since informed consent for this type of surgery cannot be given by someone under the age of 18.Regardless of if your daughter has surgery at this time or not, I see no reason why collecting information would not be appropriate.I suggest you consult in person with one or more experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
Thank you for your question and the simple answer is YES but an examination is needed so see some experts in your areaDr Corbin
Yes, if there is unwanted fat I have done it if the teenager has her/his parents consent, is reasonable in their expectations and has excess fat. The face is a bit more concerning because as we age, we lose fat in the face. However, if your parents have fat there, it may be hereditary and would remain through your life.
Fishnerd,Usually these processes resolve on their own, with no need for ancillary intervention, but with avoidance of exercise for a couple of weeks or more. I hope this helps. Liposuction information follows.
There is no specific age restriction on having body contouring surgery, but as you are not legally an adult, this is something you would obviously need to consider along with your parents as their consent would be necessary. Liposuction is major surgery. Recovery can be lengthy and painful....
After having a procedure with anesthesia you should have a responsible adult with you at least overnight and we typically recommend for 24 hours.Take care,Dr. Howell
