When is it safe to begin shooting firearms after a breast augmentation?

I'm glad to hear your breast augmentation has gone well.  I typically restrict my breast augmentation patients from doing exercises or activities that involve impact in general or heavy use of the chest muscles until things have healed enough for that to be reasonably safe.  For shooting firearms, I would typically restrict my patients from doing that for about 6 weeks.  I also have my patients ease slowly back into their exercise routines, etc.  Take care.

First of all thank you for exercising your Second Amendment rights!  I'm also glad that you are happy with your breast augmentation. Restrictions regarding firearm use in the postoperative period are somewhat difficult to define.  Obviously you don't want to engage in any activities that could traumatize the breasts.The recoil of a rifle is probably something you want to avoid for at least a couple of months. Even large caliber pistols might cause pain with muscle flexion.  To be safe, I would probably recommend avoiding firearm use for six or eight weeks. When you do resume shooting, wear a supportive bra and be aware of your implants.

First, I'm going to assume that you are properly trained to shoot firearms.  Second, I would recommend you talk to your PS before engaging in any sport. If you were my patient, I would recommend 3 weeks for handguns and 6 weeks for rifles.  

Dear Exotic,Thanks for your question. With a sub-muscular breast augmentation it is important to allow your muscle sufficient time to heal before stressing the pocket with exercise. Generally, I advise my patients to wait about 6 weeks before starting to use your muscles normally - and then, only if it is comfortable. The recoil impact on your pectoralis muscle from a large caliber rifle or shotgun should probably wait a little longer. I would suggest that you start with practicing your stance and doing some dry-fire practice so you know you'll be comfortable. I understand that you are anxious to get back to the range to train but a few extra weeks now will be well worth the wait. Be sure and check with your plastic surgeon. I hope this helps.
