If you have been taking pain medications or muscle relaxants then you should avoid alcohol usage. Liver damage can occur with acetaminophen and alcohol, in addition. Best, Dr. ALDO
Each Plastic Surgeon has their own view point on this and I would suggest you speak with your plastic surgeon. The reason that it is suggested that you stop or have minimal alcohol leading up to your surgery is that if can effect the metabolism (how fast the drugs last) of the anesthesia and pain medicines afterwards and can cause bleeding problems during surgery. Definitely do not drink and take pain medicines afterwards as it can cause you to stop breathing in certain circumstances. My suggestions to my patients is to have no more than one glass of wine or beer per day 2 weeks before surgery and preferably stop a week prior to surgery, resuming after pain medicines have stopped and you are back to your normal routine.#alcoholbeforesurgery
Thank you for your question. In my practice, I would be ok with some alcohol consumption at 2 weeks provided you are off of your pain medications (which it sounds like you are) and are healing well. However, I would check with your surgeon and see what they say, as each surgeon typically has their own protocols and preferences. Best of luck!
Alcohol consumption two weeks after surgery when not taking medication should be fine but it’s best to ask your surgeon to confirm. If you have excessive bruising, bleeding or swelling, it’s better not to drink because it could make it worse.
Thank you for the question. Consumption of alcohol should be fine at this period as long as you are off your medications. Best to get approval from your plastic surgeon first before changing any post-operative treatments or recommendations. Best of luck. Dr. Michael Omidi
Thanks for your question. I would say, yes, a small amount of alcohol at this point would be OK, provided you are off your prescription medication. It's best to double-check with your surgeon though. Best wishes.
HiThanks for the question. I have not heard of that being a documented problem. Some people may have noticed it anecdotally. If you are off of narcotics then drinking in moderation should be ok. If your surgeon told you otherwise, or if you are just overly concerned, then hold off on drinking a while longer. Fat cells are fully integrated by 6 weeks, so waiting to drink and smoke until then might be a reasonable thing.Good Luck
Hi Am,Thanks for the question..I am sure at this time neither you should be continuing any antibiotics nor pain killers. And if so, I dont think alcohol can harm you at this stage.Wish you all the bestDr.Ashok ,Dubai
Typically once you are off the pain medication and antibiotic you should be ok to start consuming alcohol. It is best to speak to your PS office about their recommendations on consuming alcohol post operatively.
No. This is not normal, but not uncommon. There could be a couple things going on here. It is most commonly due to sensitivity to the narcotic pain pills or anesthesia. Stopping the narcotic pain pills or sometimes at least by cutting back on how much you are taking,...
Thank you for your question. There is a huge difference between the two. A plastic surgeon completes a residency, typically 6 years, that is the certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and recognized by the American Board of Medical Sub Specialties (AKA ABMS). There is no board,...
Thank you for your question. You can certainly have surgery to enlarge your breasts after having a breast reduction. You will more than likely need to have the breasts reshaped/re-tightened in the form of a lift in conjunction with the augmentation, but it can be done. Consult with a Board...
