Best scar cream for tummy tuck and what supplies will I need after surgery?
Answer: Post-op scar cream Postoperative management of scars can be very important for some individuals, especially if one is genetically predisposed to unsightly scars. For sure, the scar should be protected from the sun with sunblock for the first 6 to 12 months. Other common techniques include scar massage and also the use of silicone tapes placed over the scar. Lasers are sometimes used. Scar creams are probably the least effective of the treatment options but if one is utilizing a scar cream, most feel that silicone-based creams work best. There are some available that also have sunblock included within them. Do remember that scars settle with time and may take one to two years before final results.

Answer: Post tummy tuck scar care Dear Summer, The first step in obtaining nice scar after tummy tuck surgery, is to have surgery performed by an experienced and skilled board certified plastic surgeon, who will be able to place the scar low and in the groin crease. Also, your surgeon should perform meticulous and strong repair of the wound, in order to prevent spreading and widening of the scar, which can cause hypertrophic scar. Once, you did your due diligence and chose your surgeon wisely, who did the above mentioned requirement, there is place for applying products on the scar that will help it to mature and heal nicely. There are many product in the market for that purpose and each doctor has it's own preference. Also, patients respond differently to scar care product. I recommend to my patients to use Coco butter, Vitamin E, Mederma, Shay butter, which they can apply singularly or alternate them. One of my staff, who is African American and had multiple surgeries by me, including tummy tuck, used these products and had excellent outcome. You are welcome to call my office and talk to her about it. (JoJo at 703-506-0300 after 9 am) Best of luck, Dr Widder
