My surgeon told me that it was okay to resume full activity after two weeks of my surgery. I've decided to be a little conservative and take things a little slow for the first 4 weeks. When lifting heavy weights everyone's facial muscles are used when they're making the "workout face". I just want to know if the constant facial straining and facial movement while working out can affect the result of my rhinoplasy?

Answer: Lifting after surgery Thank you for your question. You are correct that lifting and adding "strain" to your face after surgery can effect the results. The main purpose, however, for waiting before performing any strenuous activity is to help prevent accidental injury to the nose. Also, raising the blood pressure does not help with keeping swelling and edema to a minimum. It is certainly reasonable to wait a full 4 weeks before beginning your exercise regimen. Answer: Lifting after Septorhinoplasty There is never any harm in avoiding intense exercise for a prolonged period of time after nasal surgery. Personally I use my patients' lifestyle and concerns as a guide. I believe modestly intense exercises, that only minimally increase blood pressure are acceptable after two weeks in most patients. A general rule of thumb however is to wait for 4-6 weeks. Exercising earlier may prolong swelling are be uncomfortable. Best of Luck Dr Harrell
