Ethnic rhinoplasty: Is this still swelling if so how long? (Photos)

Whether you have an ethnic rhinoplasty or traditional rhinoplasty, swelling in the tip area of your nose is very common at the 4 week point. It can take up to one year before all of the swelling is gone from the tip of your nose. Thick skin typically takes the longest. There is nothing specifically you can do short of taping your nose which helps with edema and swelling if that is ok with your surgeon. Otherwise, I would maintain close follow-up and follow his/her instructions.

As others have mentioned it is still early in the healing process and swelling after rhinoplasty can persist for several weeks to months after surgery. But if you ever have questions you should call your provider immediately so they can walk you through any questions you may have and what your healing time may look like. Good luck!

Hi!Swelling after a rhinoplasty can last quite a while.  around 6-8weeks is when you have a good amount of the swelling go down but you will still be healing for many months. The tip is really the last part of the nose to heal and you have a better idea of what your final results are around 1 year.  You are only 4 weeks out from your surgery, don't be discouraged!  continue to follow up with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to make sure your healing appropriately. 

You certainly have thicker skin which will take time to see any of the changes your surgeon made involving your tip. 4 weeks is way too early and there is certainly still swelling.  Discuss these concerns with your surgeon but it will take 6 months - 1 year for swelling to resolve.

Four weeks is very early to see these types of results from rhinoplasty.  Depending on what was done, I tell my patients that their swelling will hide tip definition for 3 months and some minor swelling may remain for much longer.  The thickness of your tip skin will certainly play a role but time is also very important. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can really do to speed up the process.

Dear ashlycoleworld, You are very early in the recovery phase and still have a lot of swelling. I would suggest that you discuss your concerns with your surgeon. with your doctor but understand it is early in the healing period.  Your
doctor likely will reserve judgement until more of the swelling has resolved. Best of luck to you.
