Will it ever be possible for me to do martial arts again after a Tummy Tuck?

I'm 9 days post-op and my doctor has told me that everything is looking good and I'm recovering well. I'm very worried that I would not be able to do martial arts again after the operation. I do a form of Karate that involves hard punches and kicks to the body including the abdomen. Would this have an effect on my surgery,scar,abdomen etc. and does it mean I cannot fight ever again? Thanks a million for the help guys!

By six weeks after surgery, you should be healed enough to do most routine activities. However, I advise my tummy tuck patients to wait about 8 to 10 weeks before beginning very strenuous activities like the ones you mention. There is no reason why you cannot resume it all after this time frame. There should be no effect on the scar or muscle repair provided you wait for 8 to 10 weeks and you follow a good scar management regimen.

Following tummy tuck, you will want to limit your exercise for the first 6-8 weeks and then gradually get back into full activity.  This may take some time to feel 100%, but there is really no reason I can see as to why you should not look forward to doing Karate again!  Good luck and hope you are happy with your results!
