Several of these fillers also have lidocaine added to the hyaluronic acid, which is a numbing medication that makes the injections more comfortable. If you are allergic to lidocaine, there are formulations that do not contain that ingredient. In addition, these fillers also have other ingredients to help cross link the hyaluronic acid to increase the longevity of the product.
Several fillers are available with or without lidocaine added. The purpose of the lidocaine, a common anesthetic, is to make treatment more comfortable for the patient. If you have a lidocaine sensitivity you can request that you receive the product with no lidocaine.
Yes, Juvederm and Restylane do contain lidocaine which helps with pain during the procedure. Both are available without lidocaine for use in those patients with an allergy to lidocaine. There are other components as well in these fillers, some of which help with stabilizing the hyaluronic acid acid so that it last longer.
Hi Rachel; thank your for this interesting question.Pure hyaluronic acid is reabsorbed in the body within a few days. Cross-linking with proteins give the products specific integrity and various characteristics, depending on the process used.Juvederm, Restalyne and other hyaluronic acid (HA) manufacturers around the world have added lidocaine to all their products. This has resulted in a more comfortable patient experience. I use filler products with lidocaine added for all of my patients. Fillers remain available for purchase with or without lidocaine. There are also non cross-linked hyaluronic acid preparations such as Redensity 1 and Pure. I will often use these products as intra-dermal skin boosters.
Great Question! In the Juvederm Family of fillers, all of the products that have an "-XC" after the name have lidocaine mixed in with the hyaluronic acid gel. For example, Juvederm - XC. In the Restylane Family, lidocaine is indicated in the name of the product. For example Restylane-L (where the L stands for Lidocaine) or Restylane-Lyft with lidocaine. The reason for the lidocaine is to improve comfort during and after injection. In addition, there is also some degree of swelling after injections. Swelling tends to be associated with increased sensation of pain, so the lidocaine does help with that discomfort. We recommend that you ice the area that was injected to decrease the swelling and hence pain. Sometimes ice is perceived to be uncomfortable, so having lidocaine in the product allows one to ice the area when it is reasonably numb, allowing for less swelling and less pain overall.
What you have described is quite rare as far as I can tell from searching the literature and talking to the companies. The only thing that you can do to reduce the lines is make sure that you are on tretinoin (Retin-A) and Obagi ELASTIderm to stimulate collagen and elastin to, over time, ...
I appreciate your question and would likely recommend a combination of treatments to achieve an optimal outcome. While dermal fillers are one way to address these lines, you may also benefit from a skin rejuvenation treatment like RF microneedling or laser skin resurfacing to produce a more...
Hi @Veen Bole! I am sorry you are not happy with the results of your lip filler. Hyaluronic acid facial filler products can be dissolved by hyaluronidase injections.
