Could hylenex be causing ringing in the ear and headaches?

After getting 30 units concentrated hylenex on radix of nose to dissolve Juvederm ultra approx 3 days later had ringing in one ear and headache the ringing is still present in right ear? More injections were done on the right side as more filler was in area. Pls advise I'd love to hear possible scenarios for this. Has it ever happened before. Have you reversed fillers in this area with no problems. I had no bruising or any other side effects after. Could it travel to Eustachian tube.

It is unlikely that your Hylenex injections is causing this. If it persists, I recommend following up with your Doctor for a formal evaluation. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Thanks for your question Brendaxoxo.  Unilateral(one sided) ringing in the ear is most likely a medical condition called tinnitus.  The problem is that there are many different reasons why someone might develop tinnitus.  Chances are it is not the Hylenex or Juvederm.  By far the most common reason for unilateral tinnitus in a younger person is a viral infection that you might not even know that you have.  If you have hearing loss in that ear I will often treat patients with a short course of an oral steroid to improve outcome in tinnitus.  Your best option is to get into an experienced physician who can properly diagnose and treat.

Ringing in the ears is an unlikely side effect of Hylenex.  Follow up with your injecting doctor is advised after any side effect of filler and the use of Hylenex which is used to correct previous filler results or to avert an episode of vascular occlusion.  All the best to you.  Alexis Parker MD
