How to fix angry lower half of face? (Photos)

Question

My lips or the area around my lips creates an effect on my face that makes me look angry or as if my mouth is crammed or tight. Is there and procedures or advice that could help fix this? I can't quite pinpoint what it is.

You have a pretty face and nice skin. Increasing the size of your lips will distract from the angry look you might see once in a while. You can also relax the mentalis muscle in the chin area to give the whole area a more relaxed appearance.Good luck, Dr. ALDO

The lower half of your face may appear angry is most likely due to a downturning mouth.  Some people just have a naturally downturning mouth and some people have this due to aging or jowling. This can easily be corrected by using botox or filler.  Some patients prefer to have Ulthera which is a skin tightening treatment  to their lower face. Others wish to have their jowls minimally liposuctioned to decrease the heaviness of their lower face. I hope that helps. Good luck!

Thanks for your question!Things I know from your picture. You're young. Your lips are full and beautiful. You don't look angry. Often times, we're our worst critic. It's hard to say anything more without an in person evaluation to take the whole face into account. Many people have lips that turn down on the sides- this can be treated with botox into the muscle that causes that downturned look. Hope this helps and God Bless!Dr. Robb

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs.  Overall your lower face looks quite young and healthy - you do not have turned down corners of the mouth, your lips are full, and your smile lines are minimal at best.  Unless there is a particular area that causes you concern I do not see any areas of potential benefit.  Hope this helps.

littleyellowtrees.   I am afraid I do not agree, you have full beautiful lips!  I don't see an angry lower half of your face in the photos you sent. They are symmetrical and attractively "pouty" and I do not recommend doing anything.  In my opinion fillers in your lower face would give you an unnatural look and I do not recommend them.  Best of luck!

Hi, I have performed many facial shaping procedures using dermal fillers, silastic facial implants (cheek, chin or lip implants), liposuction and/or facelifts for over 30 years.  From the photos, your chin is weak and the upper and lower lips are equal in size.    I have performed many facial shaping procedures, including Chin Augmentation with dermal fillers or silastic chin implants, for over 30 years.  When the chin is weak, this creates an imbalance making the nose appear larger, the mid face top heavy, the lower face looks short, de-emphasizes the lips and allows early formation of a "double chin".  
 Proper placement of a silastic chin implant adds forward projection to the chin thereby creating harmony and balance to the lower face.  Using the same incision, liposuction can be performed to reduce the fat and further shape the neck.  Excess skin, from below the chin, can also be removed through the same incision.  
 I have found that placement of a silastic chin implant, through a small curved incision under the chin (also allows excess skin removal) to be very safe, quick, highly effective and far less invasive than a sliding genioplasty (requires extensive tissue dissection, bone cuts and placement of metal screws and plates to secure the cut segments of bone).  I perform chin implant surgery in 30 minutes or less, often using a local anesthetic alone.   Following my beauty principles, the lips should be full with the upper lip approximately 75 % the size of the lower lip for the lips to appear balanced. The lower lip can be augmented using a dermal filler or a Permalip implant.
Dermal fillers and lip implants offer a much more reliable volume for augmentation of the lips than permanent fillers or fat injections which are associated with increased, unwanted, side effects.
