Inverted nipples can cause functional problems for women and emotional concerns. An inverted nipple can look flat or a slit like depression or hole at the normal nipple location. There are different degrees of inverted nipples possible. Usually correction of the inverted nipples involve division of the lactiferous (milk ducts). Risks of the procedure include potential loss of sensation, inability to breast-feed, recurrence of the inversion and the potential need for further surgery.   Usually done under local anesthesia, without difficulty. This is not an uncommon condition among women -- and treatment can be performed under local anesthesia on an ambulatory basis.Realize that part of the problem is a shortening of the milk ducts which lead to the tip of the nipple.  Therefore, in order to gain a complete improvement, some of those ducts may have to be severed.  This may affect future nursing.Read more about this on my website outlined below.Elliot W.
