Anyone ever tried Tumeric for swelling? (Photos)

Question

I have heard several people say that they have taken this and that it helps swelling tremendously I am only two days postop and I wanted to ask my doctor before I take anything but here’s a picture of the vitamin.

This is an interesting question which I had never though about. I have started taking turmeric personally, even though there is no compelling evidence documenting its efficacy. It can't hurt, I figure. We all have some inflammation that would benefit from some outside help. Same with its use in the postoperative period. I will probably begin to start suggesting this to my patients

There is no clinical evidence that turmeric helps reduce post-operative swelling. However, it cannot hurt anything either. So if you have friends that swear by it, then feel free to try it out and let us know if you think it helps. Best of luck in your recovery!

I often have my patients take turmeric for it’s anti inflammatory properties.   I use it in my cooking as wellness.  As always make sure your surgeon is ok with you taking it.

Hi bobbysgirl888, congrats on completing your surgery, wishing you a speedy recovery. The benefits of dietary supplements are questionable at best.I personally have not had any experience with turmeric supplements (most of the data out there is unproven, the same goes for coconut oil), many plastic surgeons recommend arnica to reduce bruising, most believe there is benefit from arnica or bromelain, but no harm. To better help guide you, ask your surgeon what his or her preference is before you take anything.
