As I get older I notice it more and more. To me, my right side is my “good side.” My eyebrow is higher and my eye is wider. My jaw however, is wide and awkward. My left cheekbone is higher... I think it’s skeletal but what can be done to achieve better symmetry?

Answer: Facial asymmetry Facial asymmetry is normal in all patients. For areas that are particularly bothersome or noticeable, improvement can be achieved with fillers or botox to raise, lower, or fill areas to match the other side. For instance, a higher eyebrow can be lowered with botox. A flatter cheekbone can be augmented with VOLUMA. A wide jaw can be slimmed with botox into the masseter muscle or to enhance the jawline. It is best to have an in-office evaluation to determine which treatment or treatments would help in your situation. Hope this helps! Johnson C. Lee, MD Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon

Answer: 3 things to remember about facial asymmetry Hello and thanks for your question. First, please remember that we all have asymmetries in our faces and bodies and that a perfectly symmetric face does not exist. Most people are very critical of their own faces and fail to notice the same type of asymmetries in everyone else! You do have some asymmetry but you also have a beautiful face, and you notice the asymmetries much more than everyone else around you (they are too busy worrying about their own asymmetries) Next, as far as treatment goes, I would start with injectable treatments to balance out some of the volume asymmetries with fillers like Lyft, Voluma, Sculptra, etc. If these results are gratifying, and you'd like something more long term, you could consider a procedural intervention like fat grafting and implants.Seek out a qualified (facial) plastic surgeon in your area to discuss all your options in detail. Best wishes!MKB

Answer: Facial Symmetry Hello there! I think some correction of your concerns can be achieved with filler and neurotoxin. Filler can help to build up the deficiencies you see, while neurotoxin can help to decrease muscle mass in the jaw. This may help to decrease the jawline bulk you see on one side. If you prefer this bulk, jawline filler on the other side should help to even this out. You will need to maintain these treatments to maintain your results. Good luck to you! Sarah RN BSN
